4h: An Upset Brewing In GT2?

13 September 2009

The GT2 class has become the story of the race as the JMW Motorsport Ferrari of Rob Bell and Gianmaria Bruni lead in class. The unlikely scenario required for them to snatch the championship title is taking shape, as the no. 77 Porsche is running in 9th and out of the points.

The JMW car inherited the class lead after the early leader, the no. 6 IMSA Matmut Porsche, was forced off track at Brooklands and had had to be recovered from the gravel bed, dropping them to 4th in class.

A repeat of such a scenario in LMP1 is all be out of the question after the gearbox problems which hit the no. 16 Pescarolo. The 007 Aston Martin currently sits second overall, behind the Speedy Racing AMR Lola.

Speedy Racing currently have the LMP classes locked out, as they also have a comfortable lead in P2. The RML Lola, looking for its first points finish of the season, is just holding onto second position, 15 seconds ahead of the Team WFR Zytek.

The Gigawave Aston hold onto the GT1 lead, but is coming under increasing pressure from the Larbre Saleen and the gap currently stands at 18 seconds.
