“The race was really tough all day long today. The strategy was different for all of the teams and on the last stint we needed to change the front cover, for sure we lost a lot of time, but we had to do it. Everyone was pushing hard but in the end we won the race. The team has worked really hard all season to develop and improve the car to finish the season with a win, so I think it’s pretty good for everyone.”

Oreca Win, Aston Martin Are Champions

Oliver Panis and Nicolas Lapierre achieved the best possible preparation for the Petit Le Mans after winning a tense Autosport 1000km of Silverstone for Team Oreca Matmut AIM.

A dramatic final stint saw the Oreca car lose 30 seconds after they were forced to change the nose, before the leading Speedy Racing Lola was also forced to pit for repairs, allowing Olivier Panis to complete a dramatic comeback.

5h: The Race Nears Completion

Speedy Racing Team Sebah currently lead in both LMP1 and LMP2, albeit the the P2 victory is a much safer prospect as the Lola Judd holds a 3 lap lead over the second placed RML car.

In LMP1, Aston Martin appear to have adopted a circumspect approach to the final hours as the title is all but guaranteed. The 009 car sits behind the Oreca in third position, with the 007 car in 4th.
